A new beginning...breaking through, not breaking down!
I was interested to read about last week’s new moon in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, and the fact that it was also a Supermoon, coming into close alignment with the earth. After the various eclipses this year, it apparently, according to astrology, heralds a new beginning. This coincides with my own view that it’s time for us to wake up!
We live in extraordinary times of complex and escalating change. Crises seem to confront us wherever we look, and these crises are largely the result of our limited consciousness, and our attitudes and behaviours.
‘Change yourself and you have done your part in changing the world,’ wrote Paramahansa Yoganana, the inspirational Indian teacher who introduced so many of us to meditation through his classic, Autobiography of a Yogi.
When we start with ourselves, opening our hearts and feeling empathy for all forms of life with which we share this planet, we can make a difference. Our individual purpose is linked with the whole through our intentions, thoughts, and actions. We can consciously choose to change.
We may be looking at nothing less than a collective wake-up call for the whole planet - to bring about a shift in consciousness, to make an evolutionary leap, and to create a future that many of us long for which is different from what has gone before.
Barbara Marx Hubbard, the futurist who has been at the forefront of the movement for conscious evolution, writes:
‘We feel many millions of us, within our cells a rising intuition, a yearning to be more, to create more, to participate more in the healing and evolving of a suffering world. And that spiritual impulse…is the impulse of Evolution, awakening in us – whatever our religion, whatever our faith, whatever our culture – transcending all of the past.’
Like the often used comparison of the butterfly emerging from the chrysalis, we are waking up both individually and collectively to a new life and a better world. We are choosing to create a future that is fairer, more cooperative, more sustainable, and capable of greater progress for everyone, both now and for future generations. This is our unique purpose – we are meant to be here and part of the unfolding mystery of human evolution.
